Toronto’s Drive-In Revival

Toronto’s Drive-in Revival

While movie-goers wait for the reopening of their local theatres, the City of Toronto’s recently launched DriveInTO program offers big-screen fare with a retro flair. Intended to help COVID weary and isolated Torontonians “re-engage with their city”, DriveInTO allows for temporary drive-in entertainment experiences such as films, concerts or sports broadcasts at select sites all summer long.

Residents can motor themselves to a drive-in adventure at four locations:

Ontario Place

With an impressive pop-up screen just in front of Budweiser stage, FREE August entertainment will include Hot Docs, imagineNATIVE Film +Media Arts Festival and programming as part of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Ontario Place viewers can take in the complete drive-in experience by sampling snacks from a variety of on-site food trucks.

CityView Drive-In (at 20 Polson Pier)

This well-know entertainment complex among Toronto residents will brighten its drive-in screen with FREE August programming from the Reel Asian Film Festival, Reelworld Film Festival and Regent Park Film Festival. The facility will also feature a mix of concerts, screenings and broadcasts.

Downsview Park Football Fields

Canada Lands Company’s Downsview Park Friday Night Lights event, presented by MADE, will feature FREE films made in Canada. The location will also show recent box office offerings and family-friendly films with ice cream and popcorn available to enhance the experience.

Sherway Gardens

Cadillac Fairview’s Movie Night at CF Sherway Gardens will host a special night of movies in partnership with local film arts organizations. Film fans can subscribe to the CF Insider newsletter to get an early preview of the location’s presentation schedule.
